Frequently Asked Questions

Can anyone use homeopathic remedies?

Anyone can use homeopathic remedies from newborns to the elderly. Animals and plants can also benefit from homeopathic remedies.

What happens during my first consultation and how long will it take?

An initial consultation takes approximately 90 minutes. During this time a homeopath will ask extensive questions about your medical history, your personal history and your personality.

Do I need to prepare for my first consultation?

Preparation is not necessary but if you are on medication or have had recent test results you may be asked for that information.

How often will I need to consult you?

It is usual practice to have a follow-up appointment approximately one month after the initial consultation to assess your progress. The frequency of further follow-up appointments depends on the degree of ill health.

Do you need to see my medical records?

This is not usual but there are times when a copy of test results may be asked for.

What are your treatment principles?

As a Classical Homeopath I adhere to the principles as established by Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843).

What are homeopathic remedies made from?

The majority of homeopathic remedies are made from animal, plant, and mineral matter. Remedies can also be made from disease tissue and orthodox medicines.

Will I need to stop taking medications prescribed by my GP?

No. Homeopaths can work alongside any medication you are currently taking. Withdrawing from any medication prescribed by your GP needs to be done in consultation with your GP.

Can homeopathic remedies be used safely with infants and children?

Absolutely. Homeopathic preparations are ideal for physical and mental/emotional issues in children.

Are there any side effects to homeopathic remedies?

No. There can be intensification of symptoms before the condition improves, as if the body is throwing out the symptoms one final time.

Can homeopathic remedies be used safely during pregnancy?

Absolutely. Homeopathy can be used both for Mum and for baby during pregnancy.

Can homeopathic remedies be used safely during labour?

Yes. Homeopathic remedies can be a great aid to situations that arise during labour. Many midwives are very open to the use of homeopathy during labour.

What training do homeopaths receive and how are they licensed?

Classical Homeopaths complete a four-year diploma that covers philosophy and theory, medical science, Materia medica, therapeutics, cultural awareness, practical cases and assessments. Once graduated with a Diploma of Homeopathy a homeopath can work towards registration with the NZ Council of Homeopaths. This is the governing body for all registered classical homeopaths in NZ and is indicated by the title R.C Hom.

Can I treat myself with homeopathic remedies from the health store?

If you are taking remedies prescribed by a Classical Homeopath this is not a good idea as it may interfere with that prescription. Always update your homeopath on any self-medication to avoid any issues.

Can men use homeopathic remedies?

Everyone is entitled to optimum health and men are magnets to stress just as women are. Homeopathy can be used effectively to support the immune system and reduce or eliminate the physical issues that arose from stress. Men can also be treated for mental/emotional troubles.
